How does the 1,000 Books before Kindergarten program work?

Siouxland Libraries’ 1,000 Books beforeKindergarten program can start your child on the path to success! It’s fun,free and open to children from birth to kindergarten. Here’s how it works:

1.   Register:Sign up at any Siouxland Libraries location or online atsiouxlandlib.readsquared.com. Pick up program materials at the library.

2.   Track Your Reading:Record each books you read with your child on READsquared or yourreading log.

3.   Every Book Counts:If your child wants to hear the same book again and again, you can count iteach time. You can also count the books your child hears in storytime, at daycareor preschool, with a friend or family member, as long as your child listens tothe entire book.

4.   100 Book Milestones:Each time you read 100 books, bring your reading log to the library to receivea special reward.

5.   1,000 Books:You did it! Come celebrate at the library, your will receive a free book tokeep! You can even have your child’s picture taken and posted on our Facebookpage.

6.   Keep on Reading:Don’t stop at 1,000! Keep reading together; there’s more learning ahead! Theprogram can be repeated once a year until your child reaches kindergarten. Theprogram is year-round and is at your pace.

 

Whyread 1,000 books?

One thousand books may seem like a lot, but if you read just one book a night,you’ll meet your goal in less than three years. If you read three books anight, you could reach your goal in just one year! Ask our friendly staff for suggestions—we’rehere to help you on your journey to 1,000Books before Kindergarten!

 

Whatare the prizes?

Your child will receive a sticker with each 100 books read. In addition, prizesare awarded at every 200 books read. Prizes include:
